Kirsty Sets Sights on Brecon Challenge For Alzheimer’s
We are very proud of our Storage Giant team member Kirsty Williams, who is lacing up her walking boots to take on a 26-mile trek up Pen Y Fan and in Brecon to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.
Kirsty is in training for the Trek26, which she will complete with her sister, Lauren, in July, and we are backing her all the way – if you are able to donate to this very good cause, please do so here: https://justgiving.com/fundraising/kirstywilliams2021
or here https://www.justgiving.com/team/SimsSisters.
Kirsty has set a fundraising target of 1k and her sister hopes to raise £500.
Kirsty, who is an Operations and Communications Assistant at Storage Giant, based in our Newport HQ, said: “We have grandparents on both our mum and dad’s side of the family with varying degrees of Alzheimer’s and Dementia, and this has been exacerbated by the pandemic which has spurred us on to raise money and awareness. When Lauren first suggested a Trek26 event this year it was going to be a lovely stroll around Stonehenge and Salisbury. This escalated quickly into a mountainous, 26-mile hike in the Brecon Beacons, so we will be puffing and panting up Pen y Fan and battling around the Brecon Beacons in the July heat. Anyone who knows me, knows that despite my love of the great outdoors, I’m actually pretty useless when it comes to any sort of physical activity. This challenge, with its mountains and hills, will push me to my limits of fitness and endurance – especially after the most inactive year of my life, thanks to the lockdowns! Hopefully the thought of me slogging my guts out over the mountains of South Wales will encourage people to donate generously to such an amazing cause.
“I am so impressed with the work the Alzheimer’s Society is doing to transform the landscape of dementia and to create a society where those affected by dementia are supported, accepted, and able to live in their community without fear or prejudice and Lauren and I are both happy to support them with this challenge.”
