Is Your Caravan in Storage With Us? Start Prepping For Holiday Season
Some caravan vending firms are reporting around a 20 percent hike in the number of caravans being bought across the UK. And after another year of disrupted holidays for many of us the return of caravan season will be welcomed. If like many of our customers in Swansea and Newport you have kept your caravan or motorhome in winter storage, take a look at these tips to help you prepare for your 2022 staycations.
Spring clean
A spring clean is essential to rid your caravan of dust and grime or musty smells acquired over the winter period in storage. A deep clean will help you spot anything that needs fixing before heading out on your adventures, such as damp spots, or broken windows and perished seals. Keeping on top of maintenance issues and making sure your caravan is clean will help to keep it in good condition for longer, which can improve the resell value when the time comes.
Maintain the pipes
You will have drained the pipes before putting the caravan into winter storage, so to avoid your water tasting stale and harbouring any bacteria make sure to sterilise your pipes and completely flush the system.
Check the battery
If you have charged your vehicle battery every few weeks to keep it healthy it should be ready to be reconnected. Remember to clean the leads and battery terminals with contact cleaner, get the connections the right way round and check the system by testing interior lights and the water pump. If your battery has not been charged periodically you may need to leave it charging for several days. Use a battery charger and not your caravan charging system to do this. If your battery refuses to hold charge it may need to be replaced.
Roadworthiness
The vehicle should be checked for general roadworthiness – so hitches, brakes, tyre treads and lights should all be checked. It might be a good option to book a professional service before heading out on the road for the 2022 season.
Plan ahead
Winter storage books up fast so make sure you have yours in hand. If you only take your caravan out occasionally, you will need to have somewhere to keep your caravan all year round when it’s not in use.
